Good News Alert! Pupils Can Achieve 20% of their English Grade in Three Hours!

During recent elearning research in Secondary Schools, Nitty Gritty Learning's Lynda Kempsey found that all students involved left the sessions with 20% of their English grade - in just three hours - with grades exceeding their targets.

Lynda created activities that ensured the students involved could be assessed for speaking and listening during the research process, knowing that the more engaging and interactive the activities were, the more useful the information she would accumulate. Sessions were purposefully planned so that all three areas of the Speaking and Listening criteria at GCSE were covered. Before leaving the centres, she also completed assessment sheets with comments on each individual's achievements so that staff can easily show how each score was achieved when sending off exam board literature in the near future.

The focus during these sessions was to discover how students would like to use technology to raise their performance in English and Literacy, which was also eye-opening for the staff observing. The way the activities are planned could cover other topics too; indeed Lynda already has a tried and tested three hour activity which has yielded grades exceeding targets  for two years now - "the stranded on a desert island theme is always popular with students, even more so when they discover their grades at the end of the session. I have also created interactive sessions using current issues or texts students are using in lessons."

Sessions last three hours and involve 16 pupils per session. Ability is not an issue. Each session costs £300. (£350 if your centre is 100 miles plus from Wolsingham in Weardale where Nitty Gritty HQ is located.)
